Vadavannur Panchayat was formed on December 28, 1961, under the Kollengode Block Panchayat in the Palakkad district. It covers a total area of 17.38 square kilometers and consists solely of the Vadavannur village. The panchayat shares its borders with Pattanchery, Pudunagaram, Gayathri River, Muthalamada, and Pallasena. Most of the terrain is plain, featuring diverse soil types such as clay, loamy soil, sandy loam, black soil, and alluvial soil. The Gayathri River serves as the primary water resource for the region, supporting extensive double-crop paddy cultivation. Historically, Vadavannur shares a deep connection with the traditional royal lineage of Kollengode Swaroopam. The region is famous for cultural celebrations, including the renowned Kummathi festival, Oottara Ayyappan Vilakku, and Pokkunni Ayyappan Vilakku. Prominent personalities from the panchayat include Vadakkepattu Narayana Nair and the Sanskrit scholar Korath Narayana Menon. Notably, Maruthur Gopalan Ramachandran (M.G.R.), the legendary figure in Indian cinema and national politics, hailed from Vadavannur.
