Disaster Management Plan

Disaster Management

'Disaster Management' is known as Durantha Nivarana (ദുരന്ത നിവാരണം) in Malayalam.

Disaster Management refers to the planned set of activities implemented to reduce the impact of natural or man-made disasters, respond to them effectively, and carry out post-disaster rehabilitation.

4 Main Phases of Disaster Management:

  1. Preparedness (മുന്നൊരുക്കം):

Issuing timely warnings to the public before disasters occur, organizing training programs, and identifying safe shelter locations/camps.

  2. Mitigation & Prevention (തടയലും ലഘൂകരണവും):

Implementing necessary measures to minimize the impact of disasters, such as constructing dams, protective retaining walls, and adopting safe construction techniques.

  3. Response (ഉടനടിയുള്ള പ്രതികരണം):

Initiating rescue operations immediately upon the occurrence of a disaster, and providing first aid, food, and clothing.

  4. Recovery & Reconstruction (പുനരധിവാസവും പുനർനിർമ്മാണവും):

Restoring affected populations to normal life, and rebuilding damaged homes, roads, and other essential infrastructure.

In Short:

"Disaster Management is an operational framework aimed at reducing the impact of disasters and protecting lives and property.".
